R. Kelly — Ignition (remix)
I really was not kidding when I said I’m into horribly awesome shitty music, like, for real. I think this is more of a sentimental/nostalgic song for me, because I’ve had so many great memories with it from high school to now. And one of my favorite singer-songwriters, John Darnielle, did an amazing cover of it and even came up with 100 Reasons Why “Ignition (Remix)” is so damned great. It really goes to how magnificent this song is. ‘Ignition’ could easily fall under the umbrella of every other R&B/rap song out there, but what makes it different is that R. Kelly is earnest rather than pompous. It’s just a simple song about having a good time, rather than ranting off about how much money he has or how many women he can get into bed. “Sippin on coke and rum, I’m like so what I’m drunk; it’s the freaking weekend baby I’m about to have me some fun” should be a goddamn anthem.
